The Ministry of Health has completed the implementation of the “Project for Preventing COVID-19 and Ensuring Readiness in Mongolia,” which was carried out over five years. The project was financed by the World Bank with $75.7 million.

The project, with a total funding of $75.5 million, made a significant contribution to strengthening the operations of soum health centers. Half of the funding was allocated to the purchase of COVID-19 vaccines, while about 40% was invested in enhancing the capacity of the healthcare sector. Specifically, new ambulances were provided to 75 soum health centers, and 294 soum health centers received autoclaves for waste management. The remaining funds were used to strengthen the capacity of professionals for future pandemics, prevention, control, and emergency situations.

A modern, fully-equipped cold chain facility for vaccines and biological products was established at the National Center for Infectious Diseases (NCCD). Additionally, 205 ventilators, four CT scanner computer sets, 37 portable ultrasound devices, and 15 X-ray machines were distributed to primary healthcare organizations.
