Zelensky criticizes US administration’s extension of temporary exemption from oil embargo on Russia

The Trump administration has decided to temporarily lift the embargo on Russian crude oil in order to limit the increase in energy prices caused by the Middle East war.

This has allowed Russia to export its crude oil transported by sea to other countries around the world.

Last Friday, the US side decided to extend the exemption from the embargo for another month.

Two days earlier, the US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent had announced that the exemption from the embargo would not be extended, but this has been implemented in the opposite way.

Yesterday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky criticized on his social media page that “every dollar paid for Russian oil is spent on war,” but he avoided directly mentioning the name of the United States that provided this opportunity.

According to him, more than 110 ships carrying Russian oil are currently floating at sea.

“This is $10 billion, which is money that can be directly converted into new air strikes against Ukraine,” Zelensky said.

In the past week alone, Russia has launched more than 2,360 drones, 1,320 guided bombs, and about 60 missiles into Ukrainian cities, he said in a statement.

The most recent airstrike on the city of Chernihiv in northern Ukraine on Sunday night killed a 16-year-old boy and wounded four others.

“It is important to stop Russian tankers and prevent them from delivering oil to ports. The aggressors’ oil exports must be reduced, and long-term sanctions against Ukraine will continue until this goal is achieved,” Zelensky added.
